Altitude Sports back on Comcast after years of blackouts, airing Nuggets and Avs games

DENVER (KDVR) -- After six years of the station's blackout, Altitude Sports is finally returning to Xfinity TV, meaning more people can watch the live broadcast of the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche games.

On Tuesday, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, owner of the Altitude Sports television network, and Comcast announced an agreement that allows the network to return to Xfinity TV customers. Now, Colorado customers have the option to watch Colorado sports games on television, online or through a mobile device.

This is a big win for Colorado sports fans, as the channel now has every game available on one service.

The agreement takes effect immediately, and current customers will see Altitude Sports pop up on their feed on Tuesday on channel 1250 in the Denver market. The sports package comes as part of the Xfinity More Sports and Entertainment video package, which can be added on by subscribers to the Xfinity Sports & News, Popular TV or Ultimate TV video services.

“After far too long a wait, Comcast and Altitude are finally putting Coloradans first, allowing us to watch our world-class Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche. This means that more Colorado fans and kids can grow up watching the greatness of players like Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Nathan McKinnon, Cale Makar and many others without their families jumping through hoops. I’m so excited that this new deal means getting to watch and cheer on our incredible Colorado teams,” said Governor Jared Polis.

This agreement comes after years of disputes between the network and several cable and satellite providers when Altitude pulled its channel, leaving many viewers unable to watch Colorado sports. With Altitude having the broadcast rights for both of the major teams, as well as the Colorado Rapids and Colorado Mammoth, it wasn't available on Comcast since August 2019.

Since then, a lawsuit was filed by KSE. The suit made several claims including that Comcast plans to force Altitude out of business so it can launch its own regional sports channel and buy the rights to broadcast the Avs and Nuggets.

The lawsuit was settled in March of 2023, but there were still no games on Comcast until now.
