School officials talk next steps after student-athletes charged in school bus incident
School district officials have updated their school communities after two student-athletes from the Wolverines football team were charged after alleged sexual misconduct.
WARREN COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- School district officials have updated their school communities after two student-athletes from the Wolverines football team were charged after alleged sexual misconduct.
The superintendents of the Lake George, Bolton and Warrensburg School Districts said they could not comment on the ongoing investigation but said "disciplinary action will be taken according to each district's code of conduct and athletic code of conduct." Coaches and student-athletes will review the athletic code of conduct before the winter and spring season. Students will also learn "strategies for bystander intervention."
The Lake George Central School District will also be putting a tip line in place for students to anonymously report any bullying, concerning behavior or harassment. Counseling services from each district is available for all students, regardless of their involvement in football.
Two students, ages 17 and 18, were both charged with public lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child. The alleged incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 31, on a Lake George Central School District bus. Police said members of the Wolverines football team engaged in a lewd act against a juvenile on the bus when returning from an event in Syracuse.
The accused have not been named due to their age. The remainder of the Wolverines' football season was canceled as a result of the accusations and investigation.
