SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - U.S. Navy veteran David Kimball returned home from the hospital after nearly three weeks of surgery and rehabilitation. Kimball and his wife Kim learned in October that an infection David had would cost him his left leg.

Sean Carroll,  the founder of a non-profit called Enlisted For Life, helps veterans get back on their feet after any struggles they may face. Carroll discovered David's story after getting a phone call from Kim while she and David were still at the hospital.

"It seemed sudden to me which is usually what happens," Carroll said. "He was in the hospital when she called. So she found out he was going to get a leg amputated. She called us and said, 'I have to have this thing done in three days is it possible?'"

Carroll willingly agreed to help Kim surprise David with building a ramp at their front porch to help David get around better given that he has a wheelchair.

Within three days after Kim's request, Carroll put his crew to work and had the ramp ready for David Saturday morning.
