Although the Tritons outscored the Wildcats 23-11 in the final quarter, the lead Arizona had built was too much to overcome. The Wildcats led 31-20 at halftime, and a strong third quarter was enough for Arizona to win their third straight game to open the season.
The Tritons were led by Parker Montgomery who scored 14 points, while also tallying five rebounds and four steals. Kayanna Spriggs, who had 11 points, was the only other player who finished with double digit points
After dropping its second straight game following a season opening win, UC San Diego will host Saint Mary’s on Thursday and Fresno State on Sunday.
The Tritons begin Big West conference play December 5 when they host UC Santa Barbara.
