UCSD Chancellor Pradeep Khosla Elected Fellow of Indian National Science Academy
"I am deeply honored and humbled to be elected," Khosla told UC San Diego Today.
University of California, San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla has been chosen as one of six foreign fellows of the Indian National Science Academy, a recognition for his contributions to robotics, embedded software, and cybersecurity, UCSD announced this week.
His term, which begins Jan. 1, 2025, highlights his influence in advancing global research and technology. That includes his efforts in developing algorithms that are now commonly used in commercial robotics and surgical technologies.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to be elected,” Khosla told UC San Diego Today. “This recognition not only reflects my own journey, but also highlights the importance of fostering international collaboration and the exchange of knowledge.”
Before becoming UCSD’s eighth chancellor in 2012, Khosla was the dean of the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He played a role in promoting research initiatives and forming international partnerships with countries including Japan, Korea, Portugal, China, and Rwanda.
During Khosla’s 18-year tenure at CMU, he developed intelligent instruments for microsurgery that can detect and counteract a surgeon’s hand tremor. He has also co-authored three books and more than 350 scholarly articles.
Khosla is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Inventors, the Indian National Academy of Engineering and the Indian Academy of Science.
“By working together across borders, we can drive scientific advancements that benefit communities around the world,” he said.
The Indian National Science Academy was founded in 1935. Its stated mission is to promote and uphold the cause of science.
