The accident took place about 1:30 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway in the Oceanside area, about five miles south of Las Pulgas Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim, whose name was not released, died at the scene. A photographer at the scene reported that another vehicle was involved and that three people were transported to nearby trauma centers.
The collision forced a temporary full closure of the southbound side of the interstate. All lanes in the area were open again as of shortly after 5 a.m., the CHP advised.
