The County Parks and Ramona Trails Association dedicated a trail to John Degenfelder, who founded the association with his late wife in the 1980’s. Degenfelder, who is now in his mid 90’s, has a long history of public service. He chaired the Ramona Community Planning Group, helped the “Welcome to Ramona” sign become a reality, and worked with former County Supervisor Dianne Jacob on the Santa Maria Creek Staging Area.
The Degenfelder Trail was formerly the Luelf Pond Trail. It is open to hikers, cyclists and equestrians with parking at Holly Oaks County Park. For more information on the many parks, reserves, camping sites, trails and more, visit sdparks.org.
