Traffic collision prompts road closure in National City

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The National City Police Department advised motorist to avoid a particular roadway Thursday afternoon due to a traffic collision.
In a traffic advisory released at 12:14 p.m., authorities said an ongoing traffic collision investigation was taking place in the 200-400 block of E Plaza Boulevard, prompting the closure of the westbound and eastbound lanes.
"Please plan to use alternate routes for the next few hours until the traffic investigation has been completed and the roadway is open again," the advisory noted.
Lt. Vince Fernando with the police department provided details about the crash at the scene. He said a Honda Civic traveling northbound on C Avenue when it went to cross E Plaza Boulevard. At that time, a truck was traveling eastbound struck the Honda Civic.
The driver of the Honda Civic, a woman, had to be extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for a serious fracture to her left leg. Her current condition is unknown at this time.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and was uninjured from the crash. An investigation into the collision is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to call police at (619) 336-4411
