ST. LOUIS -- There's a lot of drama going on between two national landmarks and it isn't clear why. The Gateway Arch in St. Louis shared a birthday message to the ap formerly known as Twitter Monday. Then the Empire State Building weighed in with a rude reply.
The national monument shared this birthday message Monday:
"???? I’m officially 59 years tall today! ???? On this day in 1965, I was completed, and I’ve been arching over St. Louis ever since. Thanks for 59 incredible years, and here’s to many more! #GatewayArchAnniversary"
"Who cares," The Empire State Building unexpectedly shared on X.
The Gateway Arch sent this message to New York Wednesday morning:
"Oh, honey. Sorry I didn't see this until now, I was really busy with my birthday. Next year, for my 60th I'm planning a big bash for all my friends & Arch-rivals. I'll make sure you're on the list ????"
"Can’t wait," replied the Empire State Building on Twitter.
Whoever is handling the social media for the 94-year-old New York building isn't picking fights with anyone else. They even wished the Statue of Liberty a happy birthday Monday.
Social media fans were backing the Gateway Arch. Here's one of the comments:
"Don't be jealous because you blend in with the other buildings. Maybe if YOU were special, your city would also pass a law that would not allow other buildings to be taller than you. But there are taller buildings. Ouch," tweets STL From Above.
