State Patrol: Driver fleeing law enforcement in St. Paul crashes into parked car, killing person inside
A man, 28, is under arrest.
A person has died after a driver crashed into their vehicle after fleeing from law enforcement in St. Paul, the Minnesota State Patrol said Monday.
The incident began when a trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding near Interstate 94 and Marion Street just after 11:15 p.m. Sunday.
“After coming to a brief stop, the driver fled the traffic stop and troopers began to pursue the fleeing driver,” said Lt. Michael Lee, State Patrol spokesman. He said the State Patrol and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the pursuit, which they discontinued.
A State Patrol helicopter found the fleeing driver and followed the vehicle from the air. The driver crashed into a parked car in a parking lot in the area of Larpenteur Avenue and Arcade Street, and a person in that car died, Lee said.
The driver from the initial traffic stop ran away and a Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy apprehended him; a Taser was used, according to Lee. The man, a 28-year-old from Minneapolis, was booked into the Ramsey County jail.
The State Patrol investigation is ongoing.
