Sonoma deputies seize 1 pound of fentanyl, make arrest

(BCN) -- Deputies in Sonoma County arrested a man for allegedly possessing over a pound of fentanyl, the sheriff's office said Tuesday.

On Friday at about 7 p.m., a deputy carried out a traffic stop and allegedly discovered narcotics in the vehicle.

Jose Valle-Acosta was stopped on suspicion of multiple traffic violations and a search of his glove box allegedly uncovered 13 bags of suspected cocaine.

A more thorough search of Valle-Acosta's vehicle was conducted, where deputies allegedly found a compartment in the center console. Inside the compartment, just over a half-pound of fentanyl was located, along with digital scales, the sheriff's office said. Both the cocaine and the fentanyl were packaged in a way that indicated drug sales.

A search warrant was issued for Valle-Acosta's Oakland residence and Sonoma County deputies along with Oakland officers searched the home, where they allegedly found another half-pound of fentanyl and other illicit pills.

Valle-Acosta was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of narcotics for sale and transportation of narcotics for sale.

Detectives requested a bail enhancement for Valle-Acosta because of the large amount of fentanyl, which a judge authorized for $100,000, the sheriff's office said.

However, over the weekend, a different official released Valle-Acosta on his own recognizance, before arraignment, without any bail, according to the sheriff's office.
