Shooting suspect with dog in car arrested after Southern California police pursuit

A female shooting suspect, believed to be armed and who had a dog in the car, has been taken into custody after leading authorities on more than hour long chase in Southern California on Thursday.

Details are limited, but the suspect is reportedly wanted for a shooting that occurred earlier in the afternoon at Echo Park and Bellevue avenues in Los Angeles.

The chase was initiated by officers with the Los Angeles Police Department as the suspect, a female, drove at a slow speeds on the northbound 101 Freeway before getting on the 170, later exiting to surface streets and then winding her way to the northbound 5 Freeway.

The woman faked at least four stops, allowing police to surround the vehicle with guns drawn before taking off.

In one of the instances, the suspect stopped and then pulled a U-turn, dangerously weaving through officers' vehicles.

Before taking the pursuit over in Santa Clarita, more than hour after it started, CHP successfully deployed a spike strip that ultimately took one of the minivans front tires out, though the woman was able to continue for some time after.

As the suspect drove through the Castaic area and the vehicle became disabled, she pulled off the freeway on Lake Hughes Road and eventually surrendered.

CHP was able to secure the dog from the front seat and bring it to safety.

Traffic on the northbound 5 Freeway appeared to be backed up for miles due to CHP closing the roadway while making the arrest.

Sky5 was overhead.
