After coaching with the SDSU football team’s defensive line in 2024, specifically the EDGEs, Rob Aurich will now move up the coaching ranks in San Diego to defensive coordinator.
During his first season with SDSU, Aurich helped lead Trey White to an extremely productive season stats-wise, where White produced 12 and a half sacks to earn him first-team all-Mountain West honors.
Before landing with the Aztecs, Aurich spent two seasons at Idaho as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, where he helped guide the Vandals to a nine-win season in 2023, their first since 2016. The Vandals ranked 15th in FCS in total defense that season.
In other SDSU football news, the Aztecs announced its 2025 opponents Tuesday, which includes eight conference games and four non-conference games. The 2025 season will be the Aztecs’ final season in the Mountain West, before a scheduled move to the Pac-12 before the 2026 season.
The Aztecs will start their season at home against Stony Brook on Aug. 28, followed by a road trip to Pullman to face Washington State on Sept. 6. Following the trip to Washington will be an in-state matchup on Sept. 20 against California in San Diego, and the non-conference schedule wraps up with a trip to face Northern Illinois on Sept. 27.
While the Mountain West conference schedule does not have specific dates yet, the Aztecs will know who is coming to San Diego, and where they will have to travel.
