Schenectady Co. Public Library launches new mobile app

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady County Public Library (SCPL) has launched a new mobile application, the library announced on Friday. The app will offer a variety of services and features for patrons.

The SCPL app will allow patrons to check their library accounts, place items on hold, renew borrowed materials and access digital content. User will also be able to find their nearest library and its operating hours.

According to SCPL, the app comes as part of the organization's effort to boost accessibility to the library. In 2024, SCPL also expanded the operating hours at its nine branches and unveiled a new website and catalog interface.

"This app brings the library to your fingertips," said Haileab Samuel, Schenectady County legislator and chair of the Education & Libraries Committee. "With mobile devices becoming an essential part of our daily lives, this new app makes it easier than ever for our community to access library services and resources."

SCPL patrons can download the new app using the online link or from their mobile device's app store. To access all features, users will need a valid SCPL library card and PIN, which is the last four digits of the phone number associated with their account.
