Residents of a mountain community in Riverside County are being advised to evacuate or shelter in place after a propane truck leaked Saturday morning.
According to Cal Fire, crews were dispatched to the 53100 block of Mountain View Drive in Pine Cove, located in the San Jacinto Mountains west of Palm Springs and Cathedral City, around 9:30 a.m. Saturday on reports of a semi-truck leaking propane gas.
Evacuation orders were subsequently put in place for those living on Mountain View Drive, a dead-end street off CA-243.
Residents in the area of Walters Drive – located due south of Mountain View Drive – are being advised to shelter in place and refrain from using any type of ignition source, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said on X just before 11:15 a.m.
A temporary evacuation center has been set up at the Pine Cove Water District, located at 24917 Ridge Drive in Idyllwild.
Pine Cove is adjacent to the communities of Idyllwild and Fern Valley; the three have a combined population of 4,163, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.
