AUSTIN (KXAN) — The San Marcos Art League announced a month-long art exhibition dedicated to honoring veterans and active military members through creative expression.
“Red, White and Blue: Veterans Appreciation,” is open to the public throughout November at the San Marcos Art Center.
The showcase features artwork by local veterans, military members and supportive community artists. Each piece reflects themes of courage and sacrifice, said Manda Miller the social media coordinator for the San Marcos Art League.
The League’s Vice President, Gwendolyn Hustvedt, shared this year’s showcase unites artists through the patriotic theme, using a variety of art forms, from paintings and sketches to woodworking and ceramics, to convey the diverse experiences of service members.
Hustvedt emphasized the event was more than an art display—it was a space for veterans to share their stories and for the community to honor their service.
The opening reception is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and will allow visitors to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and hear firsthand the stories behind the artwork.
Hustvedt said the exhibit invites the public to experience art as a form of resilience and connection, offering a unique glimpse into the lives and perspectives of those who have served.
