Red Rocks postpones 3 shows due to snow. How often does it happen?

DENVER (KDVR) — Red Rocks rarely cancels concerts, but this week, the iconic outdoor venue postponed several shows due to the snowstorm that already left over a foot of snow in some Colorado areas.

The venue battles all sorts of weather at the base of the foothills and hosts shows from early spring through the end of November. Whether it's rain, snow or even hail, Red Rocks tries to stay open so fans can attend.

However, three shows were canceled this week ahead of the snowstorm.

On Tuesday, Red Rocks postponed Dustin Lynch ahead of the Wednesday snow, citing “inclement weather.” On Thursday, the venue rescheduled the rest of its shows this week as more snow is on the way.

Red Rocks posted on its social media it's rescheduling Of The Trees, who were supposed to play on Saturday and Sunday as some of the last shows of the 2024 season. Now, the shows will take place next weekend, while Lynch's show is rescheduled for next year.

While the venue has canceled three shows this week, this hardly ever happens, according to Ben Heinemann with Red Rocks.

"While shows occur in various weather conditions, there are times when the forecast calls for inclement weather. In those cases, the venue and the promoter, along with the artist, assess the conditions and confer on the need to cancel or postpone a performance," said Heinemann.

Heinemann said with over 100 shows this year, only four were canceled or postponed due to the weather.

The venue stays open through plenty of weather. The venue posted a snowy video on Halloween where T-Pain's show went on alongside hundreds of concertgoers in frosty conditions.

Meanwhile, in 2023, the venue tried to stay open for a concert during a severe thunderstorm, which turned into massive hail. Eventually, the venue canceled the show after concertgoers were already there.

The venue posted on its social media that there were several inches of snow in Morrison on Wednesday and the forecast expects several more inches to fall from Friday night into Saturday morning. While the weather is expected to clear up by Sunday, the shows are all rescheduled.
