Pedestrian hit on Interstate 25 after eloping from nearby hospital while on hold
The person jumped a fence and tried to run across I-25 where they were hit by multiple vehicles.
DENVER (KDVR) — Multiple northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 25 near Lone Tree are closed after a pedestrian accident occurred, South Metro Fire Rescue reported in a post on X.
A person on hold at HCA HealthONE SkyRidge eloped from the building, according to the city of Lone Tree.
The person was then seen on the light rail tracks by police officers, who warned the Regional Transportation District to stop the trains. The person approached the Lincoln Station light rail platform when they noticed the officers and turned around and headed back south.
They then jumped a fence and tried to run across I-25 where they were hit by multiple vehicles.
Officers attempted lifesaving steps before the person was transported back to HCA HealthONE SkyRidge where they later succumbed to their injuries, according to the city of Lone Tree.
South Metro Fire Rescue, Lone Tree police and Douglas County sheriffs are responding to the incident.
The crash occurred near I-25 and Lincoln Avenue.
Another person was transported away from the scene, non-emergent, according to the South Metro Fire Department.
Investigators are on the scene of the crash.
