CHARLTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The New York State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Charlton that closed lanes in both directions on New York State Route 67, Monday. “It's kind of a busy road. So, when you don't hear traffic, like, hey, what's going on? And I kept seeing out my kitchen window that everybody was like slowing down. So, I just kind of came out and I checked the mail, and I looked, and I saw that the firemen were walking up the road. So, I'm like, hey, what’s going on? He said, ‘We had a bad one here’,” said Jim Rogers.

Route 67 between Jolly Road and Morrow Road was shut down for four hours while police investigated a fatal crash. Sadly, in his 30 plus years of living there Jim Rogers says he has seen it before.  “It's like, probably, there has to be at least five at the West Line spot. There was one right over here, and there's up on Morrow Road at a sharp end, there's probably been at least half a dozen. And then the next road up there, there's been more. So probably, I don't know,15,” explained Rogers.

In this crash police say a tractor-trailer collided with a pickup truck just before 1 p.m., the driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the person’s name.

Rogers said the state put stop signs on each side of the intersection, but drivers must pay attention. “I just wish that people would be a little bit more conscientious. I mean, we want world peace, but I want people to slow down and not pull out in front of me and other people so people can get home and see their family,” said Rogers.

In 2016 we reported a fatal accident at this very same intersection where a driver went through the stop sign and hit another car on NY 67. NEWS10 has reached out to the town supervisor about the frequency of accidents in the area and were told, “no comment”.

NEWS10 has also reached out to state police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, both said they will get back to us with more on other accidents on the same stretch of road.
