Mixed-use project planned at former Nau's Enfield Drug site
The new construction will be built on top of the existing Nau's storefront, according to planning documents.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A proposed development may bring a five-story project to the former Nau's Enfield Drug site in Austin's Clarksville neighborhood.
The developer plans to build a five-story mixed-use development with commercial space on West Lynn and residences on Eason Street. The project will extend to the current Medici Coffee building with new construction wrapped around the house building. Visitors and residents will use an underground parking garage.
Miguel Rivera, the project architect, told the Historical Landmark Commission at its Dec. 4 meeting that the project will preserve the mural at the north end of the building and the business signage will be kept as well.
The new construction will be built atop the existing Nau's storefront, according to planning documents.
Commission members shared feedback on the project design at its Dec. 4 meeting. They voted to release a partial demolition permit and also to discuss the project further, specifically its building setbacks, at its January meeting. The project will also be discussed Wednesday at the Architectural Review Committee.
Nau's Enfield Drug closed in 2022 after decades of business. The Labay family ran the drug store after the Nau family sold the business in 1972, according to city documents.
