Mandatory Evacuations Ordered As Crews Battle Fast-Moving Fire in Talmadge
The fire is burning in canyons behind Lucille Drive and Alvarado Estates, and officers are going door to door evacuating people on Lila Dr., Lucille Dr., and 49th St., according to the San Diego Fire Department.
Crews are at the scene of a fast-moving vegetation fire in the Talmadge area that has created a large plume of visible smoke while prompting evacuations.
The fire was spotted in an area off Montezuma Road and Fairmount Avenue. Flames burned in canyons behind Lucille Drive and Alvarado Estates, and officers went door to door evacuating people on Lucille, Lila Drive and 49th Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Evacuations are being ordered south of Alvarado Canyon Road, west of Hewlett Drive, north of Monroe Avenue and east of Montezuma, which has been shut down in both directions.
“If you are within this area bordered by these streets please evacuate,” the fire department posted to social media.
In addition, Hardy Elementary School students are being sent to Viejas Arena at San Diego State University.

The department advised parents of Hardy students to take Canyon Crest to access the arena, and avoid College Avenue.
Several units have responded to the fire, which has burned 37 acres as of 2:42 p.m., along with Copter 3. More “air support en route,” according to SDFD.
Aldine Drive is “also impacted,” fire officials said. Caltrans also reported that the eastbound Interstate 8 off-ramp at Fairmont Avenue is closed.
No injuries have been reported. There is currently no information on the cause of the blaze.
