(KRON) -- A man who police say broke the window of a parked car at Hillsdale Shopping Center was arrested Tuesday night, according to the San Mateo Police Department. San Mateo PD got multiple calls at around 11:58 p.m. regarding a disturbance.
Callers told police there was a man breaking windows at the shopping center. Multiple officers responded to the call. When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses pointed out the suspect to them.
The suspect, who police identified as 58-year-old San Jose resident William Chase, was allegedly yelling and being aggressive toward people. As police detained him in handcuffs, Chase spat on and kicked officers.
Through witnesses, officers learned that Chase threw a large rock at a parked car, shattering the window. Officers spoke to Chase who refused to identify himself and complained of a medical problem.
He was taken to a hospital where police say his aggressive behavior escalated, resulting in him kicking a nurse. After being medically cleared, he was transported and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
Chase was charged with felony vandalism, felony resisting arrest, resisting or obstructing an officer, battery on an officer or emergency personnel.
