ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Clarkesville, Tennessee man is accused of driving from Tennessee to Clifton Park, New York to engage in child sex abuse. The U.S. Attorney's Office said Donald Jenkins, 37, was charged with traveling across state lines to the Capital Region with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

Jenkins is accused of communicating with someone in September to discuss and plan the sexual abuse of a Clifton Park child under the age of 12. The defendant allegedly devised a plan to rent a car in Tennesee for the drive to Clifton Park.

Jenkins was arrested on Tuesday after getting to Clifton Park. It is alleged that he took a sexually transmitted disease test earlier in the day and brought children's underwear as a gift for the minor.

The detention hearing is scheduled for Monday. Jenkins faces a maximum of 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, a probation sentence of at least five years and up to life, and mandatory sex offender registration.
