KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With advance voting open in Missouri, Democrats are making a mad dash to the finish line.

They're hoping to flip one of the state's Senate seats blue.

Lucas Kunce was in Kansas City Tuesday night for a rally. He's currently trailing Republican incumbent Senator Josh Hawley in the polls.

Hawley is not taking any chances as he's on the road as well. For each candidate, there's an interesting twist.

Tuesday, a Republican crossed the aisle to support a Democrat. Recently, an NFL star hit the road to support the Republican incumbent.

Kunce was in Kansas City on Tuesday, joined by Democrat and former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander and former Republican Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger.

"I think we need people who are willing to go and make DC function again. The Constitution was a compromise, the key to move forward is to compromise not their values, but in order to move this country forward. Josh Hawley is not that," Kinzinger said.

In an interview with FOX4, Kunce says he wants voters to see having a Republican join him means they can work together.

"I will work with any president from any party, any member of Congress from any party, to do the things I just talked about, to deliver for Missourians, to bring money back here to do things to support unions and support workers and support our rights," Kunce said.

Meanwhile, Senator Hawley is also touring the state. During the Kansas City Chiefs bye week, he was joined by kicker Harrison Butker, with stops in Parkville, and a rally in St. Louis.

"It is because of the policies of Lucas Kunce and his buddies in power—Kamala Harris, Joe Biden—they have wrecked this country," Hawley said.

"I think we need to preserve so many traditional values in this country that seem to be getting washed away," Butker said.

Both sides taking jabs at who is sharing the stage with their opponent.

In a statement, a spokesperson from Hawley’s campaign called out Kinzinger’s support for Kunce, who hasn't publicly said who he's voting for in the presidential election.

You can read the statement below:

“Lucas Kunce sure campaigns with a lot of Kamala Harris surrogates for someone who refuses to say if he’s voting for Kamala. And Missourians want to know: does Kunce agree with his pal Adam Kinzinger that Trump supporters are part of a ‘gross and weak cult?’ Does Kunce support Kamala like Kinzinger does? Even Lucas Kunce’s own top advisor admits people won’t support a candidate who doesn’t tell people how he’s going to vote.”  - Abigail Jackson, spokesperson

Kunce also shared his thoughts about his counterpart.

"He's never in our state. He came back for a one day private jet tour which I called his step aside tour because him and Harrison Butker flew around the state, talked about how beautiful it is when women just stepped aside. I am sorry but no one wants those people in power right now."

Hawley's team did share with FOX4 that he plans on being in Kansas City on Thursday,
