DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado is moving into the third full day of a severe winter storm that has already dropped over a foot of snow in some areas and closed road access to neighboring states.
Friday and Saturday are Pinpoint Weather Alert Days as the snow continues and winter storm warnings remain in effect through the weekend.
On Thursday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency as the continued storm is projected to drop feet of snow over the Eastern Plains and upward of a foot of snow in the Denver metro.
Since Tuesday, heavy, wet snow has coated Colorado during the first major storm of the season. So far, areas in Arapahoe County have received 13 inches, Denver International Airport has seen 6 and spots in Jefferson County received over 20 inches.
Several major interstates and roadways are closed, blocking access to New Mexico and Kansas. Several school districts are also getting a long weekend as classes have been canceled Friday.
