Lawsuit: Murder suspect's 2 infants died under suspicious circumstances

DENVER (KDVR) — The parents of a Denver woman allegedly killed by her husband have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against him, accusing him of killing the 44-year-old in July.

Nicholas Myklebust, of Denver, was arrested on July 29 after his wife and infant daughter were found dead in the North Syracuse Street residence that Monday. He is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Myklebust was also identified as an associate professor in Regis University's English department since 2014. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday for a status conference.

The civil lawsuit claims that in addition to killing his wife, Myklebust also killed their 83-day-old daughter and said that the couple's first child also died under "unusual circumstances" in 2021. That child was just 9 days old, according to the lawsuit.

Seorin Kim, Myklebust's wife, was a forensic accountant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for eight years. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital on July 29 after paramedics found her suffering from blunt-force injuries.

Myklebust allegedly told police that she "must have fallen from a step stool." The civil lawsuit says there was no step stool, ladder or "any items in the bedroom from which she could have fallen." The lawsuit continued, saying paramedics found Kim's facial and cranial injuries to be inconsistent with injuries incurred by a fall.

Additionally, the lawsuit said that Myklebust was taken from the crime scene with "bags on his hands" and alleged his hands were swollen, bloodied and bruised. The lawsuit also cited paramedic reports of "defensive" scratches on his neck and face.

The lawsuit says Myklebust tried to "clean the crime scene" and said bloody gloves were found in and on the dryer, which the lawsuit hypothesized was an attempt to conceal evidence.

Kim's parents are seeking a jury trial in the civil case.
