Infant suffers life-threatening injuries after Monday morning crash in New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A 4-month-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries after a car crash on Libertyville Road Monday morning. Two adults in the car were also seriously injured.

According to New Paltz police, a 2007 Saturn was traveling northbound around 10:12 a.m. when the 26-year-old female driver passed another vehicle in a no passing zone. When returning back into the northbound lane, the driver left the roadway and struck a tree head on, police said.

The infant sustained life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. She was then transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

The driver and a 26-year-old male passenger, who were not named by police, also suffered serious injuries. The two were transported to Vassar Hospital by the New Paltz Rescue Squad.

The crash remains under investigation, Wednesday morning. Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time or may have witnessed the crash to call the New Paltz Police Department Detective Division at 845-255-1357.

The police department was assisted by the New Paltz Rescue Squad and New Paltz Fire Department. The Ulster County Crash Reconstruction Team was also on scene.
