(KRON) -- A 28-year-old man accused of sexual battery against a sight- and hearing-impaired woman turned himself in at the El Cerrito Police Station over a month after the incident, the police department announced Tuesday.
The suspect, Hugo Antonio Martinez Ortigoza of Richmond, arrived at the police station accompanied by his lawyer Tuesday afternoon, according to the El Cerrito Police Department. Martinez Ortigoza, 28, had a warrant out for his arrest for felony sexual battery of a seriously disabled subject. While turning himself over to authorities, he did not provide a statement to investigators, police said.
Martinez Ortigoza was previously identified as the suspect involved in the Nov. 13 sexual battery. Investigators said the suspect followed the woman for several blocks until reaching a more secluded residential area near Stockton Avenue and Elm Street. There, Martinez Ortigoza allegedly approached the woman from behind and slapped her rear end before fleeing.
Police learned the identity of the suspect after distributing photos to the public taken by security cameras of nearby businesses.
