Editorial: Credibility AWOL as MSNBC runs Nazi footage with Trump rally
This removed any remaining doubt that mainstream media is an arm of the Democratic Party.
MSNBC shot its credibility in the foot Sunday as it spliced footage from a 1939 Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden to make a comparison with Donald Trump’s campaign rally at the same spot.
“But that jamboree happening right now, you see it there on your screen in that place is particularly chilling because in 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of a different fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, packed the Garden for a so-called pro-America rally,” the anchor said over the footage.
This removed any remaining doubt that mainstream media is an arm of the Democratic Party.
Politicians and pundits on the left have long lambasted the former Republican president as being a fascist, a dictator and “threat to democracy.” It’s what they do. One might say slamming Trump is a source of “joy.”
The 2024 election is a study in divisiveness as each party fires salvos at the other over immigration, the economy and other issues top of mind with voters. We’ve come to expect it — just not from allegedly respected news sources.
Critics jumped on Trump’s signature bombastic, over-the-top rhetoric and the extremely poor decision to have comedian Tony Hinchcliffe deliver a hideous opening set in which he called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” The Trump campaign weighed in on Hinchliffe’s comment: “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign,” spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said in a statement.
Didn’t matter. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.), called Sunday night’s event a “hate rally,” a sentiment shared by the usual Trump-despising suspects.
Conservatives, however, blasted the network. “Yesterday’s Trump rally was filled with Americans from every walk of life including orthodox, conservative, reform, and secular Jews. I saw a woman in a burka. It wasn’t anything like a Nazi rally. Shame on MSNBC,” wrote X user @amuse. Elon Musk, who spoke at the rally, slammed the Nazi footage move on X: “Wow, MSNBC is utter scum of the Earth.”
What MSNBC fails to understand is that in editorializing its coverage of a presidential candidate’s rally as akin to a Nazi gathering it painted Trump’s supporters with the same brush, much as Hillary Clinton did with her “deplorables” label in 2016.
People support and vote for Trump as an antidote to Joe Biden’s inflation-boosting profligate spending, porous border policy, and the effect sheltering and housing the influx of migrants has had on host communities. He also attracts those who feel dismissed and ignored by progressive elites who take their taxes and provide little in return.
MSNBC just lumped them all together as Nazis.
While Nov. 5 is the finish line for this election (though realistically, it will take days or even weeks to declare the winner), MSNBC’s flagrant pro-Kamala Harris move will have repercussions well beyond any acceptance speech. The network has put America on notice that it has an agenda, and it isn’t unbiased, balanced journalism.
Trump supporters, however, are used to the left calling them pariahs. If anything, MSNBC just proved how far the partisan rot has spread.
Voters, and viewers, won’t forget this.
