ST. LOUIS - The City of St. Louis Department of Health announced Tuesday that three dogs involved in an attack that killed a 62-year-old woman and injured her husband last month have been euthanized.
On Jan. 15 in the 5900 block of Theodore Ave. in north St. Louis, the 62-year-old woman—who was deaf, according to her brother—was in her backyard when three other dogs crawled under a gate and attacked her and her dog.
The woman's 73-year-old husband fired a gun in an attempt to scare the dogs away when he was bit. Police used pepper spray on the dogs when they arrived.
The woman died while in surgery.
The three dogs involved were surrendered by their owner on Jan. 23, and Animal Control humanely euthanized all three the next day.
At the time of the incident, City Environmental Health Bureau Chief Justen Hauser noted that there had been two prior calls for service for animal control in the fall of 2022 for the same dogs.
The breed of the dogs has not been released.
