(KRON) -- Disgraced former San Jose city councilmember Omar Torres was denied bail in a San Jose courtroom on Thursday. Torres resigned from his office last Tuesday and was arrested after new allegations came forward about him allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.
According to a police report, Torres raped the victim repeatedly between 1990 and 1999. In an allegedly recorded conversation between Torres, the victim, and another person, Torres admitted to sexually assaulting the victim 20 to 25 times.
Those allegations were made separately from an ongoing investigation into another allegation that Torres had abused a 17-year-old. Torres' case initially came to light when he told police he was the victim of extortion.
Torres is being accused of lewd acts with a child, oral copulation of a minor, and sodomy of a child. He is facing three felony counts of child molestation and faces a maximum of 24 years in prison.
