DENVER (KDVR) — Roofers in Fort Collins were working in the right place at the right time to help firefighters rescue two dogs from a 2-alarm fire.
Poudre Fire Authority said the fire occurred at a home in the 1500 block of Windcreek Court on Thursday morning. No people were home at the time of the fire, but two dogs were inside.
Two roofers were down the street when they saw smoke and called 911. PFA said the roofers knocked on the doors of the house, trying to alert anyone who might be inside.
One of the callers said he could hear dogs barking.
"He thought they would be okay but as the smoke began to accumulate, he felt he had to do something," PFA said in a thread post on X.
He got into the house through an unlocked door. He found one dog and tried to coax it outside, but he inhaled smoke and evacuated.
"He was able to provide helpful information to Dispatch and a firefighter rescued both dogs, carrying them out individually from the second floor," PFA said.
Both dogs received medical attention. The fire was extinguished and there were no other injuries reported.
