DENVER (KDVR) — A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued for Monday as colder conditions lead to rain changing to snow and a slick commute in Denver's weather forecast, and accumulating snowfall leading to difficult travel in the mountains.
Weather tonight: Rain to snow
Rain will change to snow Sunday night in the Denver area as low temperatures fall to the lower 30s.
Snow will lead to difficult travel conditions in the mountains, foothills and Palmer Divide Sunday night through Monday morning. Because of this, winter weather advisories are in effect for elevations above 9,000 feet as between 7 to 14 inches of snow falls.
Winter weather advisories are in effect until 11 a.m. Monday for 3-8 inches of snowfall in the foothills and up to 4 inches of snowfall along the Palmer Divide alongside 45 mph wind gusts.
Low temperatures will fall to just below freezing, which will allow for the change over to snow Sunday night into Monday morning.
Weather tomorrow: Morning snow, clearing skies
Monday's morning drive could be dicey due to higher elevation snow and wet roads alongside some slushy accumulations in the metro.
Snowfall will wrap up by the afternoon, followed by clearing clouds. High temperatures will climb to the 40s, which is about 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.
Looking ahead: More snow chances, cold temperatures
Tuesday, sunshine returns to the forecast. Temperatures will still be on the cool side, only climbing the the 50s, which is about 5 degrees below average. But, dry conditions won't last long.
The next chance for showers will spread from the mountains down to the metro Tuesday night into Wednesday. This will be a much colder system, which will aid in an increased chance for snow in Denver.
At this time, there are still questions on the timing and track of this system. But, it looks to aid in keeping the chance for showers and below-normal temperatures in the forecast through the start of the weekend. So, stay tuned for updates as the Pinpoint Weather Team's confidence increases with the timing and intensity of this next storm.
