Denver to deploy residential snow plows amid severe winter storm

DENVER (KDVR) -- After several inches of snow fell in Denver weather this week and several more inches expected by Saturday morning, the city will activate its residential snow plows overnight.

Denver has already hit the average snowfall for November just eight days into the month, and the snow is not done yet. Pinpoint Weather Alert Days have been issued for both Friday and Saturday as the snowstorm is expected to cause dangerous winter driving conditions in many areas of the state.

Snow plows are on duty Friday clearing the main roads and dropping deicing materials.

The Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure announced Friday that starting at midnight, the city will activate its residential plows to take a single pass down the center of side streets in Denver.

The residential plows do not clear roads to bare pavement and do not carry deicing materials. They do remove the top few inches of snow, "making the side streets more passable and helping drivers get to the main streets," DDOTI said in a press release.

Anyone can track the city's plows through Denver's online plow tracker.

Winter weather road conditions

The National Weather Service is warning drivers about travel difficulties across Colorado. The worst travel impacts in the Denver metro area are expected Friday through Saturday morning in the southern part of the metro area.

Snow is expected to be the heaviest Friday evening, with rates of one to two inches falling per hour. By Saturday morning around 10 a.m., snowfall is expected to taper off.

Denverites can use the Colorado Department of Transportation's online COTrip tool to see live road conditions and road closures across the state.
