DEC issues fire danger advisory for Adirondacks, Capital Region, Hudson Valley
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says that a majority of the NEWS10 viewing area is at high risk of fire danger.
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says that a majority of the NEWS10 viewing area is at high risk of fire danger on Friday. The DEC released a map with the counties impacted by this advisory.
The DEC released the following tips to ensure fire safety:
- Avoid burning on windy days
- Use existing campfire rings
- Build campfires away from overhanging branches, steep slopes, rotten stumps, logs, dry grass, and leaves
- Keep campfires less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in diameter. Only charcoal or untreated wood can be used as fuel
- Be sure your match is out
- Never leave a campfire unattended
- Drown the fire with water
- Stir the remains, add more water, and stir again
According to the DEC, the following counties in our area are at risk:
- Albany County
- Columbia County
- Dutchess County
- Greene County
- Montgomery County
- Rensselaer County
- Schenectady County
- Schoharie County
- Ulster County
- Essex County
- Fulton County
