Colorado road conditions: Heavy snowstorm causes crashes, closures on U.S. 36 and I-70

Heavy snow across Colorado was causing delays, crashes and road closures Wednesday morning, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

As of 7:45 a.m., Denver-bound U.S. 36 was closed near Boulder and eastbound Interstate 70 was closed near Lakewood, CDOT officials said.

Eastbound U.S. 36 is closed at Colorado 157 and Foothills Parkway, near Boulder and Lousiville, for a crash, according to CDOT officials.

Information about the number of cars involved or an estimated time of reopening was not available, but multiple Waze users reported a “major” accident and standstill traffic in the area.

Eastbound I-70 is closed at Exit 263 for Colorado Mills Parkway in Lakewood for a crash, CDOT officials said. As of 7:45 a.m., CDOT was reporting up to 20-minute delays on the eastbound interstate.

Information about the number of cars involved or an estimated time of reopening was not available, but Waze users reported traffic delays between the exits for U.S. 6 and West Colfax Avenue.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
