Cody Petterson Named San Diego Unified School Board President, Richard Barrera Vice President

The San Diego Unified Board of Education announced Tuesday the unanimous selection of District C Trustee Cody Petterson as its new president and District D Trustee Richard Barrera as vice president.

Petterson succeeds Shana Hazan, the outgoing president, and previously served as the board’s vice president under her leadership.

“I look forward to working with Trustees Petterson and Barerra as they lead the Board of Education in the new year,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Fabi Bagula said. “They are committed to delivering educational excellence to our students, and as we make important decisions about our finances and curriculum, I know they will be tremendous partners in our work.”

Trustees Petterson and Barerra will serve in their new posts for one year, as per district policy.

New Board officers are selected annually, according to district officials.
