Clarence Middle School holds 'Walk for Water' charity event

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Students and staff at Clarence Middle School continued their annual 'Walk for Water' event Friday, raising money to help bring clean water to people in Uganda.

Students walked a mile while carrying full gallon jugs, experiencing just some of the challenges people in Uganda face while collecting clean water.

Over the past ten years, Clarence schools have raised more than $200,000 for the Ugandan water project. That money has helped create more than 50 rain water collection tanks across the country.

It costs $3,800 to create just one rain water collection system.

"The water walk, it's just giving you a snapshot of what they have to do every day," said Zach, a 7th grader at Clarence Middle School. "It gives us the experience and gives us the motivation to fundraise and get clean water for as many people as possible."

In the past two weeks, the students have raised over $10,000. Fundraising ends Wednesday, every dollar collected will go to clean water in Uganda.
