CATSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The village of Catskill will celebrate the winter solstice on December 21. The fourth annual stroll will begin at 5 p.m.
The Winter Solstice marks the moment when the Earth is furthest from the sun, making it the shortest day and the longest night of the year. This year's theme is "Return of the Light."
Hosted by Cultivate Catskill, the event will feature a parade down Main Street, led by Gaia the Earth Goddess and the Green Man, the male Spirit of Nature. Live music performances and costumed merrymakers will also be present throughout Main Street.
Dave Woodin’s Hardwood band at Left Bank Ciders, Travis Shook at High Rock Home, Ryder Cooley at Citiot, and Lex Gray at Conca D’Oro Restaurant are just a few of the performances happening. For the kids, the event will feature face painting, cookie decorating, card making, and roasting marshmallows over one of the 12 fireplaces along Main Street.
The event will run until 8 p.m. For more information, visit Cultivate Catskill's website.
