Brush Fire in Otay Mountain Wilderness Could Grow to 200 Acres
Firefighters were battling a fire in a rural area of San Diego County Saturday that had the potential to reach 200 acres, authorities said.
Firefighters were battling a vegetation fire in a rural area of San Diego County Saturday that had the potential to reach 200 acres, authorities said.
The Border77 Fire was reported around 2:10 p.m. Saturday in the Otay Mountain Wilderness area, according to Cal Fire San Diego. It had burned around 5 acres and officials thought the blaze had the potential to grow to 100 acres.
That changed by 3 p.m. when Cal Fire reported it had burned through between 10 and 15 acres, and could jump to 200 acres. The agency has not ordered evacuations.
“There are currently no threats to any structures,” a Cal Fire public information officer said.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and federal the Bureau of Land Management were assisting in the firefighting effort.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
