(KRON) -- A Vallejo neighborhood sheltered in place for hours on Tuesday as police were responding to shots fired at a home. The shelter-in-place was issued for more than 12 hours since Solano County officials announced it after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police surrounded a home on the 200 block of Viewmont Avenue and barricaded the suspect, the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) announced in a press release. After an hours-long standoff, the suspect "surrendered peacefully" around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The suspect was identified as 53-year-old Garry Barry Harrison Jr. He is accused of firing a gunshot inside the residence where his mother and her adult daughter were, according to VPD.
No one was hurt by the gunshot.
The mother and daughter ran out of the home, "fearing for their safety," VPD said. Once they were outside, they reported to police hearing a gunshot. Officers contacted Harrison Jr. by phone and instructed him multiple times to exit the home, but the suspect refused to comply.
SWAT officers were also called to the scene "to ensure the suspect's safe surrender" after multiple de-escalation efforts that did not work, VPD said. Chemical agents were deployed into the residence, and Harrison Jr. eventually surrendered peacefully.
A firearm was recovered inside the home and was booked as evidence.
Harrison Jr. is facing an assault with a deadly weapon charge, according to Vallejo police. He was booked in the Solano County Jail and has bail listed at $65,000, jail records show.
