DENVER (KDVR) — The city of Aurora is seeking a talented artist to imprint the vision of its new project's mission in the Day Room of the recently created Aurora Regional Navigation Campus.
Aurora's Art in Public Places program wants to find an artist who can create a feeling of safety with their art while also embracing the work that will happen inside the building, according to a press release from the city. The program wants the art to represent personal growth and transitions, acknowledging the social struggles guests face and looking toward the future to help people discover their purpose and sense of being.
The new Aurora Regional Navigation Campus is a new facility brought to life through the bones of the old Crowne Plaza Hotel and Convention Center.
The building is expected to open in late 2025 and will offer a variety of services to the local community which include:
- Transitional housing
- Employment services
- Workforce development
- Daytime shelter
- Emergency shelter
- Medical clinics
- Mental health services
- Medical respite beds
- Housing navigation
- Case management
- Meals
The artist selected will have plenty of area to work with and will face the challenge of covering the walls of the old hotel lobby which has been converted into the campus' new Day Room. The artist will also have the opportunity to make a highlighting piece in a large open center wall space.
Artists interested must apply by Friday, Nov. 15.
