Albany Saratoga Speedway development stalled
Plans to bring hundreds of new apartments to Saratoga County are on hold after the Malta Town Board voted to table the idea.
MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Plans to bring hundreds of new apartments to Saratoga County are on hold after the Malta Town Board voted to table the idea.
A developer made a formal presentation to the board to transform the old Albany Saratoga Speedway property into apartments and retail space. They ended rumors that it would be Section 8 housing, but instead apartments for middle class workers earning between $49,000 and $70,000 a year.
They argued that with GlobalFoundries growing, there's a desperate need for affordable housing. Developers asked for a workshop to further study the plan, and the vote hit a deadlock for now.
