ST. LOUIS - Who wants it more: the red or the blue? 22 police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel who have been selected to participate in Budweiser Guns ‘N Hoses gathered at Helen Fitzgerald’s Monday night ahead of the traditional Thanksgiving Eve fight-night fundraiser.
Jese Finney is the Vice President of Guns 'N Hoses and told FOX 2, “This night is about giving back, and they want to compete but make no bones about it. When the bell rings, they do want to win the fight; they’re going to get after it. No one wants to be the loser on Thanksgiving Day and hear from their family.”
Monday night, the Boxing Association officially set the fight card for the upcoming 37th annual event.
Angelia Frantz is fighting in Bout 630 and represents Belleville Police Department.
“I tried out in 2020 and I wasn’t able to make the cut, so this year I’m bringing it all and I’m hoping for the best," she said.
Each fighter was introduced to his or her opponent onstage. Many have spent months training for the opportunity to make the fight card for the main event.
“St. Louis Police Department has been my home gym; I’ve been working with them the last couple of months. I got into it because I really wanted to. I signed up and put a lot of effort into it, and I got high hopes it’s going to be a great fight," Frantz stated.
The boxing and MMA event is set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Enterprise Center, with all proceeds benefiting Backstoppers, which currently supports 95 families and 75 children of servicemen lost in the line of duty around St. Louis.
“People are getting together, and there's a lot of camaraderie between everybody, and we’re focused on our goal; that’s Wednesday night, Guns 'N Hoses," Chief Ron Battelle, who is wrapping up his final year as Executive Director of The Backstoppers, Inc., said.
If you are interested in purchasing tickets, head directly to ticketmaster.com; there’s less than one percent of tickets remaining and under 48 hours until the big night.
FOX 2 will be airing a portion of the fight Wednesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
