Quincy Jones' cause of death revealed: reports

(KTLA) -- Quincy Jones' cause of death has been revealed.

The music icon passed away from pancreatic cancer, according to his death certificate, which was obtained by CNN and TMZ.

No other contributing factors were listed, but the certificate reportedly noted that Jones had battled cancer for years.

Jones is survived by his seven children, including actress Rashida Jones of "Parks and Recreation" fame. She honored her father in a post on Instagram shortly after his death.

"My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life," she wrote. "He kept 'jazz hours' starting in high school and never looked back. When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work...there was no safer place in the world for me."

She went on to call her father a giant, culture shifter, and genius who "made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen."

"That’s his legacy," she added.

Jones was laid to rest in a private ceremony in L.A. a week after his passing. His family plans to hold a public memorial at a later time.

His family did not reveal the cemetery where the ceremony took place.

In lieu of flowers, Jones’ family asks for donations to the Jazz Foundation of America.
