2 teens arrested after North Bay school alerted to photos of student with guns

(BCN) -- Santa Rosa officers arrested two teenagers earlier this week after a school was alerted that one of its students had photos of himself with a firearm, according to police.

Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers learned that a student of Amarosa Academy had been sharing photos of himself holding a firearm. Police said photos of the 16-year-old male suspect in clothing appeared to be connected to criminal street gangs.

According to police, the messaging in his photos was possibly linked to a gang. None of the photos, however, appeared to have been taken on school grounds or gave any indication the student possessed the firearm on campus.

The suspect was on probation and had an outstanding arrest warrant for violating that probation, police said.

Police went to the student's residence in the 2200 block of Stony Point Road to conduct a probation search and arrest him for his warrant. According to police, the suspect tried to run into a back bedroom while another juvenile jumped out of a bedroom window as they contacted the suspect's father at the front door.

Officers alleged they found a sheathed knife in the front pocket of the 16-year-old suspect at the time of his arrest. The 15-year-old boy, a Santa Rosa resident, had two outstanding warrants, according to police.

As they searched the residence, an unloaded 9mm handgun matching the one photographed with the suspect was found in the drawer of an entertainment stand drawer in the living room. A check of the serial number showed the firearm was stolen.

The 16-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into juvenile hall for his outstanding warrant and alleged firearms violations. The 15-year-old suspect was also booked into juvenile hall for his outstanding warrant.
