Authorities have arrested a teenager who they say murdered another teen at a park in Orange County over the weekend.
Officers with the Anaheim Police Department were dispatched to a local hospital around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when the 16-year-old victim was brought there for treatment of at least one gunshot wound, a news release issued by APD stated.
It was not stated how he was transported to the hospital.
Initial investigation revealed that about 30 minutes prior, the boy had been at John Marshall Park, located in the 2000 block of West La Palma Avenue, when a group of suspects confronted him.
“One of the suspects produced a handgun and shot the boy at least once,” Anaheim police said.
Further investigation led to the identification of the gunman as 19-year-old Samuel Galeno.
Galeno, an Anaheim resident, was taken into custody without incident after a search warrant was executed at a home in the 1800 block of West Tamara Lane.
He was booked at the Anaheim Detention Facility for murder, police said. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Detectives declined to discuss the motive for the killing.
