Nico Tortorella and Bethany Meyers’ family has grown with the birth of their second baby.

“The moment I realized I was in labor in the middle of Hurricane Milton, I was lying in the bed of the hotel room we had evacuated to for the night,” Meyers, 38, wrote in an essay for People, which was published on Friday, October 18. “My first reaction was denial, then dread, quickly followed by surrender. The home birth I had imagined had taken a different turn, but just like pregnancy, parenthood and babies, nothing is predictable, and we are never in control the way we think we are.”

They continued: “However, just as divine timing tends to know better than us, labor stalled, storms cleared and we made it back home to welcome our 10/10 hurricane baby: Pesce Pearl Meyers Tortorella!”

The couple — who tied the knot in March 2018 and welcomed their first baby, Kilmer Dove, in March 2023 — announced their impending arrival via Instagram in April.

“We’ve got some big news: We’re having another baby!” Tortorella wrote at the time. “This era has been all about transition, bending and shifting in order not to break. We left everything familiar to find something new — somewhere the grass really is greener because the sun shines more. We did it.”

The Younger alum pointed out that their second child was conceived after they moved their family from Brooklyn “to a place where we can grow food year-round, where we can run barefoot, chase lizards, play in the ocean and literally stop to smell the flowers.”

At the time, Tortorella was gearing up for the release of their new children’s book, Olivette Is You, and their new album, Born. “Despite all this, seemingly none of that matters,” they added. “Right now, this moment is a celebration of life at a time when life itself seems the most fragile.”

Tortorella went on to thank Meyers for “creating the space to continue to grow our family,” gushing, “We are nothing without you. I am constantly in awe of your strength and willingness to expand.” They also noted that Kilmer already had “big sister energy.”

Meyers, meanwhile, revealed in their Instagram post that the baby was due in October. “It took years to conceive our first, and this baby made its way into our lives as soon as we touched down at the ocean, which still feels completely surreal,” they wrote. “Already, I see the personality differences between our first and second. Which makes me feel like so much of fertility and family expansion is divine timing.”

After struggling with fertility issues, Meyers made special mention of those who continue to have trouble conceiving. “It’s not lost on me that some people reading this are still hoping for their first while I announce my second,” they noted. “There are never any words that make it better, so I won’t try to offer them. I will just let you know that you are seen and your sorrow is held, even in my joy.”

In May, Tortorella reflected on how the pair’s lives changed after becoming parents. “The night Kilmer was born transformed us. We see more, know more, are more,” they wrote via Instagram. “We have evolved — our love, our growth and our shared existence are a testament to what we’ve become.”
