With New York and Los Angeles facing off in this year's World Series, it's not surprising that ticket prices could give some sticker shock.
But even with that knowledge in mind, the Dodgers-Yankees matchup is bringing in some historic prices.
As Axios reports, this year's average ticket price of $1,368 is almost exactly double last year's average of $685 and the cost to see the Dodgers in the 2020 World Series, which was $689.
Yankees fans, whose team hasn't been in the World Series since 2009, last paid an average of $550 for tickets.
More than anything else, demand seems to be driving the price increases.
Not only are people willing to pay more for a matchup between the country's two major coastal hubs, but they're willing to travel, too.
Citing Vivid Seats data, Axios reports fans are traveling nearly 450 miles on average to catch the games, 63% more than last year.
