Women's Health Wednesday: Gut health issues
New research from UC Davis shows promise to alleviate gut-health issues caused by high sugar diets.

SACRAMENTO, CA (NEWS10) - New research from UC Davis shows promise to alleviate gut-health issues caused by high sugar diets.
Scientists tested their theory on mice. They discovered a reduction in colon inflammation and improved the tight junction impairment that many patients with high added sugar diets experience.
The process began after a key regulatory enzyme inhibitor was discovered by professor Bruce Hammock in a laboratory at the school. According to UC David, Hammock has studied sEH inhibitors for 50 years in research leading to drugs that target diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer.
The enzyme inhibitors are currently being evaluated in human clinical trials for other disorders such as pain management without the use of opioids.
To go inside the lab and learn more about their work, check out the video in this week's Women's Health Wednesday.
